Convert PNG to WebP

A PNG is precise but heavy. As WebP, the same image keeps its transparency and is often several times smaller. Drop your PNGs, download the result.

    How to do it

    1. Drop your PNGs

Drag them into the area or pick them from your device.

    2. Choose the quality

For a screenshot or a logo, keep 90% or more. For an illustration, 80% is often enough.

    3. Download the WebP files

The size before and after is shown for each image.

What you gain by going from PNG to WebP

PNG compresses without loss: it keeps every pixel, which produces large files as soon as an image is detailed. WebP has two modes; here, adjustable lossy compression greatly reduces the size for a result that looks almost identical.

The gain varies a lot from one image to another: flat colors already compress well as PNG, while a photo exported as PNG can lose 70% of its size or more. The actual measured percentage is shown for each file.

    When to keep the PNG

    • You are still editing the image: keep the lossless original.
    • The target software does not accept WebP (some print tools or older editors).
    • Screenshots of very fine text: try 95% or more, or stay with PNG.

    Frequently asked questions

    Is the transparent background preserved?

Yes. A PNG with a transparent background gives a WebP with a transparent background.

    Can WebP be opened everywhere?

Yes in every current browser. Some older software (editors, print tools) cannot open it: in that case, use the WebP to PNG tool to go back.

How many PNGs can I convert at once?

Up to 30. You can then download everything in a single ZIP archive.

    Are my PNGs sent anywhere?

No. The conversion happens in your browser, on your device.
