What is the AVIF format?
AVIF is a recent image format based on the AV1 video codec. At equal visual quality, it often produces files much lighter than JPG, and even than WebP, which explains why many websites have adopted it. Current browsers display it, but a lot of software cannot open it yet.

If your browser can read AVIF, the conversion happens on your device. Otherwise, the image is sent to our server, converted, then deleted automatically. The interface warns you before uploading.
Frequently asked questions
Will the JPG be heavier than the AVIF?
Usually, yes: that is the price of compatibility. Lower the quality to 80% to limit the size.
Is transparency preserved?
No, JPG has none: it is replaced by the background color you choose. To keep it, use Convert to PNG.
Are animated AVIF files supported?
Only the first frame is converted.
How many files can I convert at once?
