    How to do it

    1. Drop your images

JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, HEIC, BMP or TIFF, up to 30 at once.

    2. Set the quality

AVIF looks good at lower settings than JPG: 50 to 65% suits most photos.

    3. Download the AVIF files

One by one or as a ZIP archive.

    Why use AVIF

AVIF is based on the AV1 video codec. At the same visual quality, an AVIF file is often around half the size of a JPG and noticeably smaller than a WebP. Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari all display it, so it can be used on websites today.

For maximum compatibility, many sites serve AVIF with a JPG or WebP fallback.

    Which quality to choose

    UseRecommended quality
    Website photos50 to 65%
    Detailed product images65 to 75%
Graphics with text75% and above, or keep PNG/WebP

AVIF encoding is slower than JPG or WebP. If your browser cannot produce AVIF, our server does it and deletes the files automatically.

    Frequently asked questions

Is AVIF supported by all browsers?

All current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari display AVIF. Some older devices and many desktop programs do not open it yet.

    Is transparency preserved?

Yes. AVIF supports transparency, like PNG and WebP.

Why is the conversion done on a server?

Many browsers can display AVIF but cannot create it. In that case our server encodes the file, with a warning, and deletes it automatically.

Can I convert AVIF back to JPG?

Yes, with the AVIF to JPG tool.
