How to do it
Drop your JPGs
.jpg and .jpeg files, up to 30 at once.
Set the quality
75% is a good starting point: the difference is rarely visible.
Download
If a photo cannot be made lighter, you get the original back.
How much can a JPEG shrink?
Photos straight from a phone or camera are saved at a very high quality, often 92 to 98%. Re-encoding them at 70 to 80% usually saves 50 to 80% of the size with no difference you can see at normal viewing size. Photos that were already compressed, for example downloaded from social media, shrink much less.
| Quality | Typical result |
|---|---|
| 85% | Visually identical, moderate savings |
| 75% | Best balance for websites and email |
| 60% | Very light, slight softness in fine detail |
Need even smaller files?
Reducing the dimensions saves far more than lowering the quality: a 4000 px photo resized to 1600 px is about six times lighter. Use Resize image first, or switch the output format to WebP here for an extra 25 to 35%.
Frequently asked questions
Will my photo look worse?
At 70 to 80%, differences are very hard to see. Compare the before and after thumbnails before downloading.
Can I compress a JPEG to a specific size in KB?
Not automatically yet. Lower the quality or reduce the dimensions until the size shown suits you.
Is the location data removed?
Yes, EXIF and GPS data are not kept in the compressed file.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Compression happens in your browser; your photos stay on your device.
