View and remove EXIF data

Photos carry hidden information: where they were taken, the phone or camera, the date and time. See it, then remove it before sharing, without recompressing the image.

    • Metadata (GPS) removed

    How to do it

    1. Drop your photos

The metadata found in each file is listed, GPS location first.

    2. Remove the metadata

EXIF, XMP and IPTC data are removed; the image itself is not recompressed.

    3. Download the clean files

One by one or as a ZIP archive.

    What EXIF data reveals

    • GPS location: the exact place a photo was taken, often your home.
    • Camera or phone model and sometimes its serial number.
    • Date and time the photo was taken.
    • Software used to edit it, author and copyright fields.

Many messaging apps remove this data, but email, cloud links, forums and marketplaces often keep it.

    Removal without quality loss

For JPG, PNG and WebP files, only the metadata blocks are removed: the image data is copied exactly as it was, so there is no quality loss and the file usually gets a little smaller. The orientation flag is kept so the photo stays the right way up, and the color profile is kept so colors do not change. Other formats are re-encoded at high quality, which also removes all metadata.

    Frequently asked questions

    Is my photo recompressed?

Not for JPG, PNG and WebP: only the metadata is removed and the pixels are untouched.

Will my photo still be the right way up?

Yes. The orientation information is kept on its own, without the rest of the EXIF data.

    Are my photos uploaded?

No, unless they are HEIC or TIFF files, which browsers cannot read. Reading and removal of JPG, PNG and WebP metadata happen in your browser.

Do other tools on this site remove metadata too?

Yes, every converted or compressed image is saved without EXIF and GPS data. This tool is for removing it without changing anything else.
